What would you do if someone used something you created without giving you credit?

Unit 4 Hello! Almost half done! WOW!

If someone used something I used without giving me credit, I would be very upset. I don't know if there' s something that matter with me or what! My mom tells me I have middle child syndrome, which is possible, but I feel like I am constantly not heard by anyone. My family, my husband, my dog...if someone did this, it would just add to the stress of never being heard. At that point, I would make myself heard and get legal advice. I would have to make sure I would be able to prove it also. My dad says "Always cover your own butt." So before I sent anything anywhere, I would make sure I had a copy mailed to me unopened, so the postmark is readable and they can see I had the original before anyone else. Does anyone else ever feel unheard?

Good afternoon Unit 4!

Wow, I can't believe this unit is going so fast! Only 6 units left! It'll be gone before we know it. My husband is out of town this week, so I am enjoying some one-on-one time with my 2 year old. We've been shopping, out to lunch, watch movies and eat pizza late night, everything. She's so fun and growing up so fast. I have noticed in the past month or so her talking a lot more also. She used to say words here and there, now she is putting sentences together! So fun!! She's been catching on to things to. Yesterday she said "Oh mommy you're so funny!", then started laughing. I love kids! This weekend my sister is coming down with her 2 girls, who are 4 and 2. Our friend in Louisville owns a farm, and they go out there on weekends and ride four wheelers, everything. It's interesting. The girls love it! We also bring my dog, because the farm is all fenced in. We live in a duplex, so we don't get out much! See you all in a few minutes, it's almost seminar time!

Based upon your reading on plagiarism, why do you think we need to cite our sources?

Hello class,

Plagiarism is a no-no. I said it last unit, and I will say it over and over. We must site our sources because we must give credit as due. How would you like it if someone took something that was yours and claimed it as their own? Talk about a law suit. Beyond not being fair, you can't get credit if it's not yours. This is why we must use original work and cite our sources. I knew someone in high school that took their older sister's research paper from years before, and turned it in as their own. Little did the student know, the teacher remembered the student's sister, therefore catching a little deja vu. She knew she had read this paper before. She was right. After much research, the teacher caught My friend got suspended. Cite your sources, because if it is someone else's "property" or "idea", keep it that way. Play nice!

See everyone at seminar tonight.

Days go by...

Class, I cannot believe it is almost Unit 4 already! Time flies when you are having fun I guess! I enjoy reading everyone's posts.

This week is a quiet week at my house. Last week, I spent the week at my father's and went to a meeting Wednesday night, that's why I could not attend seminar. I am on the board of a charity called the "Indiana Blue Star Salute" . I advise everyone to check out their website, http://www.indianabluestar.org/. It is an organization where the Legions of my county put together a one day free all access activities for the soldiers of Indiana and their families. They have fly overs, celebs, autographs, mascots from sports teams, a dedication, everything. It's really neat and such a fun day. It's completely free, and the basic concept is we want the families of these soldiers to come out and have a stress free day and have fun. This year, the country star, Michael Peterson is coming to our event and giving a concert. The event isn't until June this year, so a lot more celebs will hopefully sign up. We have awhile. Last year a bunch of my friends put together a booth to give free chair massages. Pretty cool, right? There are about 30-40 booths of free and cool stuff as well from all the sponsors. Anyway, my meetings are in Indianapolis, and I live in Louisville, so I obviously can't go to all of them, but some. They are Wednesdays at 6.

Anyway, there's my rundown of plans until Summer and the event happens! Don't worry, if i cannot make it to class I always go back and go to the seminar and watch it, and do the seminar option 2.

The countdown continues.....

Hello class,

I know I have been super excited and talking non stop about my upcoming vacation to some of you, but I cannot help it I tell you! I am taking my daughter to Disney World for the first time, as well as my husband for the first time, and I've never been so excited in my life. (Except for when my daughter was born.) My daughter is so fun right now, and I know it'll be magical for her. We have 36 days currently until we leave. It is going so slow! My daughter's favorite characters are the characters from Winnie the Pooh, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Oh, and one other thing? Do you know what her favorite thing is right now? Getting on www.disney.com and watching the "roller coasters". (They have individual movies with "trailer" type videos for some of the rides.) Do you thinks she's as excited as I am?

Plagarism is a no-no!

The question was what would you do if someone used something you created without giving you credit?

If something of mine was being used without giving me credit, I would be very very upset. First, I would confront the person. If they would not apologize or take it back, I would consult legal help. The problem with legal help is it has to be proven.

I wrote a screenplay a couple of years ago and sent it into the publisher. (It didn't get published by the way.) Anyway, the publisher advised me to make a copy of the screenplay and mail it to myself, and leave it unopened, before I sent it into them. Therefore, I could prove it was mine based on the postage stamp when it was sent back to me.

Does anyone know what kind of legal help can be processed for plagiarism? I know a lot of schools have immediate suspension if the student is caught with plagiarizing. I guess it would depend on the severity. If it was just a research paper, I would make sure the school or admissions rep knew. If it was something like a screenplay, book, movie, something like that, I would consult a legal representative.

I work hard on my papers, as most of us do. To take something that is not yours and make it yours is stealing. Not cool! What do you guys think?

Being an Online Student

To be honest, I love being an online student, but I miss class room time too. I like being an online student because it is so ON MY TIME. When you are a mommy, this is huge. If I want to work on homework, take a nap with my daughter, and come back to it, I can. That's awesome. As I have mentioned before, we are taking a vacation the last week of March, so I am working on working ahead in the course. I am especially hoping to get ahead on my final paper. That last seminar I will probably not be able to attend, but I can do the second option and not have a penalty. I love that. I can go on vacation without feeling guilty. How cool is that? As long as I am responsible and turn all my work in and do the second option, I can still get a good grade. I can still look at the seminar I missed and watch and listen to it, even if I didn't see it live. This is fun to do also because I can pause and rewind at any point. Online school is fun!

I miss classroom time too, though. I did all my massage therapy classes in a classroom, because it was so hands on. There is pretty much no classes where the student has to have hands on because it is not possible. I still make lots of friends online, but I do not know what they look like or anything about them. There is really no one on one time. What does everyone think? I love online school, but I kind of wish it was part online, part in class. Do you think this is what it will come to?

I love the anonymity, flexibility, and self-directed style of the courses. I can say something and it not be right, and I don't feel embarrased or on the spot. (I get embarrased easily, try it some time, my friends think it's funny!) I think we can create a closer atmosphere by telling eachother more about us, instead of just our names and where we are from. How about, does anyone have any kids? Pets? What's your favorite food? Childhood memory?

Greetings Classmates!

Greetings Classmates! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I just wanted to make a general blog congratulating everyone on the blogs. :) I had a great weekend, and on to homework! I love writing, although I have writer's block. I was just wondering though, I am taking my honeymoon next month. (We've been married for years, had one child, but FINALLY got time and money together to take our honeymoon.)We are going to Disney in Orlando. I was hoping while I was there, besides from homework and the assigned blogging, I could blog a few things about the trip? Would anyone mind? It would help me get used to blogging I think.
